Hernan Etchaleco: IMF delegation arrives in Argentina on key mission

International Monetary Fund representatives arrived in Buenos Aires on Monday to evaluate a possible disbursement of funds, which may back the massive debt restructuring launched by the Latin American country, Reuters reports. Analysts consider the negotiations with the IMF to be crucial for the success of the new plan and key for the future.

The delegation will investigate whether the government complied with the zero-deficit policy implemented for the last trimester of the year. Meanwhile, the Government launched a declaration calling to a "New National Deal", which includes corporations, unions and opposition parties to impress the financial markets.

The agenda will include conversations in respect of the major debt restructuring plan, which succeed within local creditors, but remains uncertain among the International investors. It is important to remind that Argentina was one of the major debt issuing countries until the beginning of the year, when investors decided to restrict its access to credit institutions in view of the rumours about a possible default on its debt.
