According to the results of November 2001, Russia was in fourth place in steel production in the world. It produced 4.628 million tons of steel, the International Iron and Steel Institute reported. China was in first place with 12.3 million tons of steel. It as followed by Japan and the USA with 8.125 and 6.198 million tons correspondingly. The institute analysts reported that a tendency for a reduction in steel production was observed in all top ten countries on this list.
