On January 21, the State Duma (the Russian parliament's lower chamber) will hold a session with the participation of chairmen of legislative assemblies of the Federation members. A statement to this effect was made by Gennady Seleznyov, State Duma speaker, after his meeting with Sergei Mironov, speaker of the Federation Council (the parliament's upper chamber). Seleznyov explained that chiefs of regional legislatures would get acquainted with the State Duma's work, in particular, with the draft laws to be discussed at the Duma spring session. Regional law-makers will also be informed of how their initiatives pass through the Federal Assembly's chambers. Sergei Mironov will take part in this session. The chairmen of the two chambers of the Russian parliament discussed issues related to cooperation in the legislative sphere. In Gennady Seleznyov's words, during their conversation they stressed the need to examine the draft law "On Russia's Constitutional Assembly". In this connection, they discussed the initiative to form a working group made up of State Duma deputies, Federation Council members and the president's representatives. The working group's objective is to prepare an agreed-upon version of the draft law on the Constitutional Assembly.
