In the ten years since his resignation the first, and at the same time, the last President of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, has called Boris Yeltsin a liar who is not to be trusted. The interview was broadcast by BBC. In the words of Mikhail Gorbachev, over the whole period of Yeltsin’s presidency, he tried to control everything the former did. Gorbachev could neither meet with governors nor appear on television; his telephones were tapped. Despite all protests of Boris Yeltsin against privileges, none of the tzars had so many privileges as Yeltsin had. It was during his presidentship that corruption flourished.
Mikhail Gorbachev also expressed his opinion about the current president, Vladimir Putin. Gorbachev says that Putin has helped to restore stability in Russia. His bold advance in friendship with the USA deserves praises. As for Gorbachev’s relations with President Putin, they are much better than with Boris Yeltsin: even a hot line has been installed for Mikhail Gorbachev to communicate with the Kremlin.
Ex-president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev considers the day of his resignation the most dramatic day of his entire life. Mikhail Gorbachev says that although he was overwhelmed with emotions, he had to behave in a calm way.
