LUKoil is to allocate around USD 3 million towards preparations for and celebrations to mark St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary. This was announced on Friday, January 17 at a press conference by company president Vagit Alekperov. He stressed that around USD 14 million has already been allocated to acquire a unique tomographic scanner for the Central Radiological Institute in St. Petersburg.
LUKoil's president also said that the company plans to help organise a whole series of cultural events, including a concert by the Tchaikovsky Orchestra, to celebrate the city's jubilee. LUKoil also intends to organise an exhibition jointly with the Russian Museum, entitled 'Petersburg: Portraits of the City and its Citizens', and a traveling exhibition of the Russian Museum in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Alekperov underlined that the company also plans to take part in the organisation of a celebration for children, called the 'Open Week of Children's Books', during the anniversary celebrations and a host of sporting events.
Alekperov said that the celebratory events planned by LUKoil 'should not be one-off events.' 'Our company has long and fruitfully cooperated with St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region and we intend to widen our presence here,' he said. 'We are prepared to continue taking an active part in the cultural and social life of these regions.'
