Specialists Trying To Seal Off Nuclear Reactor Of Kursk Sub

Water is being pumped out of the 6th reactor compartment of the Kursk nuclear sub. According to Igor Serov, chief designer of nuclear reactors of the Afrikantov experimental machine-building design bureau, after opening the 6th compartment they found water there. Presently planned drainage is being carried out in the 6th compartment. Serov stressed that "the nuclear safety of the reactor was technologically ensured a year ago." According to him, at present specialists are working at how to seal off the reactor. At the same time, works are being conducted in the 7th, 6th and 4th compartments. Experts says the work is going on under extremely difficult conditions as on all the decks from 6th to 9th compartments they have to clear obstructions caused by the explosion.
