The 201st Russian motorised rifle division, deployed in Tajikistan, is not being reinforced with artillery pieces in connection with the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan, and there are no plans to do it later, said Lieutenant General Vladimir Zaritsky, Chief of the missile forces and artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, at the briefing on Thursday. According to him, there is no need to reinforce the 201st division because its present artillery systems make it possible to accomplish the tasks of hitting targets. The general said that the 201st motorised rifle division consists of one artillery regiment and three gun battalions of motorised regiments. Apart from that, said he, the commander of the division has a separate self-propelled battalion of Uragan multiple-launch fire systems which are of high efficiency.
