Three times as much oil as Mazeikiu Nafta officers had earlier reported had been spilled into the Baltic Sea, according to the Transfosa Klaipeda sea port company, which has been engaged in cleaning up the oil spill. Their is no longer danger of pollution to the coast of Lithuania and Latvia. According to Transfosa experts, after the rescue ships had finished the clean-up operation, it was established that 12 cubic meters (around 9.6 tons of oil) had been gathered, while the oil company had earlier stated that only 4 cubic meters had spilled. Experts will make a final decision on how the incident occurred after the examination of the hose from where the oil spilled. Work at the Butinge terminal has been suspended.
