Five Ukrainian Miners Killed In Methane Explosion

Five miners were killed in a sudden blowout and explosion of methane on the Skochinsky mine in Donetsk, Eastern Ukraine. The tragedy took place on Tuesday night. Gas exploded on the level of 1,200 meters. Thirty-three miners were in the stall at that moment. Twenty-seven of them managed to rise on the surface, 5 were killed, another is being sought for. Ten teams of the Fuel and Energy Ministry's rescue unit are engaged in the rescue operation. A commission to look into the cause of the accident has been set up.
