Ukraine Denies Selling Kornet Anti-Tank Missiles to Iraq - 1 April, 2003

Ukraine has never supplied Kornet anti-tank missiles to Iraq. As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, this was announced by Head of the Foreign Ministry Press Office Markian Lubkivsky at a briefing in Kiev today. He said that such allegations were not based on facts but on 'unfounded and prejudiced information.' According to official sources, Ukraine has cut off all military ties with Iraq.

US Newsweek daily newspaper made the accusation. Experts support the allegation, claiming that Ukraine delivered 500 Kornet missiles to Iraq through intermediaries in January. These missiles are now apparently being used by the Iraqi army.
