Books and archives belonging to the Iraqi National Library in Baghdad have been destroyed in a fire. According to the BBC the fire has destroyed valuable books and also the national archive containing information about the Iraqi monarchy and documents relating to the Ottoman empire. Several people, as yet unidentified, broke into the National Library and burnt everything except for a few books on Islamic law. The Koran Library, containing the oldest and rarest editions of the Koran, was also set alight.
