RAO UES chief to visit Kamchatka next week - 2 October, 2002
Anatoly Chubais, Chief Executive Officer of RAO UES, will arrive in Kamchatka on a working visit on October 9, 2002, the Vostok Media agency reported. He will take part in celebrations devoted to the official start of the first energy unit of the Mutnovsk geothermal power station. After the first unit starts working, the energy output will reach 25 megawatts, which is some 25 percent of the region's energy demand. After the Mutnovsk geothermal power station starts working at its full capacity, Kamchatka's demand for electrical energy, taking into account the current power stations, will be fully satisfied and there will be some potential, in the event of growing production capacities on the peninsula. The Mutnovsk geothermal power station is the only example of using heat from earth deposits for the production of electrical and heating energy in the country.
