Indian forces shot and killed three suspected militants in a clash in the Jammu portion of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, police said Monday. Five other suspected militants and a soldier were killed in two separate clashes in the Kashmir part of the state, the AP reports.
All of the militants were believed to belong to groups fighting for Kashmir's independence from predominantly Hindu India or the territory's merger with Muslim Pakistan, officials said.
