Struggle Against Terrorism And Other New Threats Must Be Comprehensive And Long-term - Vladimir Putin

Struggle against terrorism and other new threats in the world must be conducted in a comprehensive way and on a long-term basis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday, addressing participants in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation business summit in Shanghai. In this context, he went on, Russia stands, above all, for the further "integration and liberalisation of the world economy and for the lifting of barriers to trade and investments." To achieve stable development, one must improve the system of international relations, which is based on the reliable foundation of international law and its institutions - the United Nations, the Security Council, and other international and regional structures, Putin said. He pointed out that integration and stabilisation processes must be developed in a way that would prevent "inequality in the distribution of their benefits and costs becoming a source of new threats or new shocks." Russia stands for the improvement of the "multilateral trade system," but it does not want states to become "hostages of their commitments assumed under outside pressure," Putin said.
