Economic Inequality Is International Terror's Nutrient Medium

International terrorism takes root in economic inequality, the Geopolitical Academy Vice President, Colonel General Leonid Ivashov opined Wednesday. One fifth of the world's population is consuming 86 percent of world-produced products, whereas the poorest countries, constituting 22 percent, are consuming as little as 1.5 percent, the figure which was about 6 percent not so long ago, Ivashov said as addressing the international conference The Military and Society: The Time of Change. A gap between the rich and poor is getting increasingly wider, said Ivashov. He went on to cite world famous economist Galbraith who had described it as a revolution of the rich against the poor. Globalization will only fuel antagonism between countries and social layers, believes Ivashov. Economic inequality will continue to be extremists' "nutrient medium," summed up the general.
