Senator Carl Levin who is heading a US delegation to Uzbekistan has given a high appraisal of the Uzbek assistance to the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan. He announced this at a press conference following a meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov on Tuesday. The USA regards Uzbekistan's assistance in the anti-terrorist operation as part of joint efforts to defeat terrorism, the US visitor said. The meeting with the Uzbek president focused on military cooperation between the two countries and on humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, Levin said. They also discussed the opening of a bridge across the Amu Darya river towards the Afghan port of Khairaton, the US Senator added. After their visit to Uzbekistan the delegation of US senators will visit Pakistan, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
