The Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) on Wednesday ratified the Agreement between the Russian Federation and Armenia on Jointly Planning the Use of Troops (Forces) in the Interests of Ensuring Joint Security. As RIA Novosti correspondent reports, this Agreement, signed on September 27, 2000, regulates the questions connected with "joint operational planning of the use of troops (forces), allocated to Joint Group of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Armed Forces of Armenia, in the interests of the sides' joint security within the borders of the Caucasian region of collective security." The practical realisation of the Agreement is carried out by the Defence Ministries of both countries. The Agreement's term of action is five years with the possibility of prolonging it. The Armenian side ratified this document in February this year.
