The United Nations Secretary General's envoy to Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi, is arriving in Kabul on December 11, Tuesday, to arrange a ceremony of transferring power to the provisional administration to be led by Khamid Karzai, writes Pakistan's News periodical. Brahimi will return to New York for a few days to be back in Kabul before December 22, the day when the ceremony is scheduled to take place. Brahimi is known to have held talks with former king of Afghanistan Zakhir Shah in Rome on December 9 on the agenda which has not been disclosed. The UN is going to help Afghanistan revive its economy ruined by many years of civil war, as well as raise police forces, restore its legal and banking systems, set up civil self-government bodies. Before December 22, the UN Security Council is expected to send its peacekeeping contingent to Kabul to maintain law and order in the capital to then be probably dispatched to other Afghan cities and provinces.
