The First International Festival of the Modern Christian Song, "The Singing Angel," is underway in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow on Sunday. Singers from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, a number of other large cities in Russia, Minsk, the Belarussian capital, and Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, are taking part in the event. Igor Korolev, the director of the Christian Music Producer Centre Messiah, told the media that the festival pursues attracting the attention of the public at large to Christian singing and popularising this genre. The festival organisers want to offer an alternative to modern pop songs by familiarising the public with modern Christian songs, which are based on Christian conscience. There are no tickets as such for the event, but voluntary charitable contributions, which are being collected at the festival, will pay for the concert. The remaining money will go to treat children with AIDS and child drug addicts.
