US singer Courtney Love pleaded innocent

US singer Courtney Love, 40, pleaded innocent to charges of assault at a court in Los Angeles on Friday. The charges stem from an incident alleged to have taken place at her former boyfriend's house last April.

Ms Love is alleged to have attacked a woman with a bottle outside the Los Angeles home of Jim Barber, formerly Ms Love's boyfriend and manager.

A preliminary hearing was set for 7 October. Ms Love appeared composed, but told waiting reporters: "I'm scared.", informs BBC News.

According to ITV News, the judge also signed a protective order restricting Love from contacting or coming within 100 yards of the alleged victim.

In a separate case, a judge in Beverly Hills set a September 30 trial date for Love on drug possession charges. Last month she pleaded guilty in Los Angeles to being under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to a drug rehabilitation programme.

Love also faces charges in New York City for allegedly striking a fan with a microphone stand at a club in March, reports Sky News.
