Russian Internet audience is growing rapidly. The main source of this growth remains people who have just started working online but are not experienced Internet users yet. In the 4th quarter 2000 such people made Internet audience grow from 9.2 millions of people to 11.4 millions in the end of the year. The base of Russian Internet audience are the young men from the families with above average level of income. The majority of this people are «white collars» with higher education, students and operating personnel. The Russians aged before 24 years are 1/3 of the whole audience, another third are the people between 25 and 34 years. An average age of Russian Internet audience is 32 years. Oppositely, for the older persons Internet is not an essential type of communication and media. More than two thirds of Russian Internet audience are the people with higher or unfinished higher education. The majority of Russian Internet users (56,4%) are men. The number of men in the core audience (most active Internet users) is even higher — 84,5%. 36% of Internet users are people with higher education, 22% — students. The sample size of the survey, conducted by Monitoring.ru, was 3,000 respondents, the survey was conducted in all seven federal districts of Russia.
