An overwhelming majority of Russians - 79% - regret the breakup of the former USSR, the Public Opinion sociological survey foundation reported on Thursday after conducting an all-Russian poll of 1,500 urban and rural residents on March 10, a week before the tenth anniversary of the referendum on preserving the USSR. Moreover, the share of those regretting the breakup of the Soviet Union is growing: this figure was only 69% in March 1992, according to an analogous poll carried out by the Public Opinion. Logically enough, 72% of respondents gave a positive answer when asked whether they would vote for the unification of all the former Soviet republics if such a referendum were held today, while 15% would not support this idea.
