Dmitry Rogozin, head of the international affairs committee of the State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, advocated in remarks to the press more stringent legislation governing Russia's migration policies. He was commenting on the resolution the State Duma enacted on Wednesday on measures designed to bring order to migration policies in the Russian territory. Rogozin urged amendments to the Law on the Status of Foreigners in the Russian Federation and On Entry and Departure from the country, among other things. He feels one major reason to bring in more stringent legislation is the great number of illegal residents in Russia. Also, he believes the situation of former countrymen in Russia is to be addressed by a law on the status of countrymen and on repatriation.
