One of the most important headlines in today’s news is the incident with the Russian Mi-8 helicopter that crashed in Chechnya. The transport helicopter, which was flying from Khankala to Vedeno, was shot down by gunmen. The helicopter was carrying 12 military men as well as the three members of the crew. The Mi-8 performed an emergency landing in the area of Dyshne-Vedeno settlement and caught fire.
The military men on board the helicopter fought back and destroyed the bandits. The federal headquarters in Khankala stated “the military men went into action at once and killed 19 extremists.” None of the Russian soldiers were wounded or hurt.
This is the second crash of a Russian helicopter in Chechnya over the last few days. Another chopper blew up on January 27 on the outskirts of the settlement of Shelkovskaya. The Office of the Public Prosecutor has already determined the reason of the crash. Sergey Fridinsky, deputy Prosecutor General in the southern administrative district said that the explosion happened “inside the helicopter.” Therefore, the chopper was not downed.
