Russia and the European Union plan to hold a special session of the Russia-EU Cooperation Committee on the Kaliningrad region (Russia's westernmost region, semi-enclave) issues in June 2002, Liliya Kuzmina, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, reported. The session will have to settle a number of issues related to trade in goods and services, investment movement and labour market. The Russian side proposed to hold the Committee's session in Kaliningrad, the capital of the Kaliningrad region. It was noted earlier that preparation of an agreement on fishing between Russia and the EU is of great importance for development of cooperation between Russia and the European Union on the Kaliningrad region. Kuzmina noted that the document should be signed already next year.
