Russia and the International Road Transport Union settled the conflict

Russia and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) have settled the conflict on the TIR guarantee system and agreed to preserve and improve it.

The relevant agreement was signed on Tuesday in Geneva by Mikhail Vanin, the Head of the Russian State customs Committee, Mikhail Nizov, the Director General of the Russian Association of International Carriers (ASMAP) on the one hand, and Martin Marmy, the IRU Secretary General, on the other hand.

As the head of the Customs committee said to RIA Novosti, the conflict was caused by the failure of the guarantee system of international trucking. The European insurance pool together with IRU has proved unable to fully meet its financial obligations on customs claims.

Mikhail Vanin said that the signed document provides for the agreed-upon settlement of claims by the State Customs Committee, a mechanism for further cooperation between Russia and the IRU, new agreements on technical cooperation in the creation of a modern information system.

The State Customs Committee Head highlighted the significance of the reached agreements adding that "the effects of the crisis would have been really pernicious." In his words the agreement will bring substantial revenues to the budget and allow to preserve and improve the international trucking system that "will have a positive effect on the transport situation across Europe."
