Ingushetia no longer welcomes Chechen refugees

The last remaining camp “Satsita” located in Ingushetia designated especially for refugees from Chechnya has been closed, reported by deputy chief of the government of Ingushetia Muhammad Markhiev to “Interfax” Monday. “The “Satsita” camp has ceased to exist,” said he.
 
Markhiev informed that majority of refugees left “Satsita” for Chechnya. “Some remained in Ingushetia; they will be offered better living conditions,” stated he. According to Makhiev, several tens of thousands of refugees from Chechnya will remain in Ingushetia. More than 18 000 of them are currently living in Ingushetia in private sector. Another 19 000 are living in tents.

In a not so distant past, there used to be six camps in Ingushetia, which were used specifically to accommodate the needs of refugees from the neighboring Chechnya. Two camps “Bart” and “Sputnik” have been closed earlier this spring.
