Ministry of State Security of Georgia accused Adzaria authorities of preparing assassination of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.
Georgian Minister Gugi Ugulava said the four killers had been arrested and two more members of this group went into hiding in Adzaria.
The Minister said that the group of four people was sent to Tbilisi from Batumi for “studying the routes used by Georgian President”. Georgian Ministry of State Security says that it has the “proof of Adzaria’s authorities preparations to assassinate Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili”.
According to Mr. Ugulala, the mercenaries received orders directly from Adzarian high-ranking officials: Deputy Interior Minister of Soso Gotilidze and State Security Minister Sergo Gotitidze.
Head of Adzaria Aslan Abashidze called the accusations absurd. “This is not the first time when accusations of such sort are brought to us”, said Mr. Abashidze in an Interfax interview.
He said that Georgian authorities are preoccupied with bringing charges of this sort, being unable to solve the pressing issues of the country economy, they are playing this military game instead.
The Head of Adzaria said that Georgia is conducting informational warfare on Adzaria 24 hours a day, and this does not contribute to starting a dialog between Georgia and Adzaria. “There is no dialog because our opponents are only trying to dictate their will to us”.
