104 People Die in Pskov Region Fires in First Quarter of 2003

For the first three months of this year, the Pskov region registered 458 fires, or 49 fires less than the same period in 2002. In those fires, 104 people died. Over the same period last year, 82 people died. For the first quarter of 2003, 37 people received injuries and burns. 30 people received injuries and burns for the same period in 2002. Fire destroyed 210 buildings, 40 tonnes of feed, 83 heads of livestock, 9 cars and trucks, for a total loss from fires of more than 64 million roubles.

A spokesperson at the Pskov region press service told Rosbalt that fire rescue workers saved 153 people, 404 heads of livestock, 483 buildings, 56 cars and trucks, for a total savings of 35.4 million roubles.
