Public executions as the way to higher morality

The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan hanged two married women charged with prostitution at a football field last Friday. The accused were executed in public after traditional prayers. The decision on capital punishment had been taken by judge Abdul Ali on the basis of the Sharia law. Taliban's spiritual leader mullah Omar declined the appeals to pardon the accused. Immediately after the execution two more women and nine men were beaten with lash and given a 10 year imprisonment for immoral behaviour and adultery. The execution was hailed by a crowd of locals, according to RIA Novosti. Since the Taliban came to power in 1996, the public executions have become a common thing.
