New sports: throwing mobile phones

The third world championship for throwing mobile phones will be held in the Finnish city of Savonlinna on August 24. Special rules have been estimated for the championship. For example, style and aesthetic beauty are taken into account at the competition’s free style. Whole impression produced by participants is also of great importance for the final result of the championship. Points range from 4 to 10; the one who gains more points is the winner.

The traditional style means throwing mobile phones straight from shoulder; the throw length and style are the parameters for granting points. The rules are the same for private and team competitions.

There is a special requirement for the championship: participants can throw only Nokia or Ericsson mobile phones; Fennolingua company grants telephones for the competition.

Last year’s record was fixed by Jani Torpo who threw a Nokia phone, the result was 57,03 meters. Pasi Henttonen with an Ericsson was the second winner, his result was 55,45 meters. Does it mean that Nokias are better for throwing than Ericssons? As soon as the championship is over, the question can be answered. By the way, applications for the championship are accepted till August 16 inclusive. A special Internet site was even designed especially for the championship; all information about the event is given in several languages.
