A government commission left for the area of the earthquake which occurred on the territory of Tajikistan on Wednesday. As RIA Novosti was told, at least three persons perished and more than fifty were wounded, among them six gravely, as a result of the natural calamity. According to the preliminary information, the earthquake reached magnitude 7 on the Richter scale, and its epicentre was in direct proximity of the town of Roguna situated at a distance of 100 kilometres from Dushanbe. As many as 52 buildings were completely destroyed, and about 600 inhabitants of Talkhak, Chachma, Taghi-Arba and Pasi-Mukhrakho mountain villages have become homeless. -O- (ark/ant) 10/01/02 10:26
