Russia's minister of culture Mikhail Shvydkoi and his Latvian counterpart Karina Petersone have signed in Riga a programme of cooperation between the two countries' ministries of culture for the 2001-2002 period. The programme lists joint events in the sphere of musical and theatrical art, exhibition, museum, library and publishing activities, as well as personnel training. It provides, for instance, for Russians' participation in European Poetry Days to be held this fall in the Latvian resort city of Sigulda. In turn, Latvian representatives will take part in the Russian theatre festival called the "Golden Mask" and the Moscow cinema festival. Days of Russian culture will be held in Latvia, and Days of Latvian culture - in Russia.
