Civilian convoy strafed my military aircraft, Red Cross refugee camp attacked, ambulance crews slaughtered, children massacred in their homes. Israel’s measured and civilized response to acts of aggression by Hezbollah terrorists causes a reaction of shock and awe in the international community, divorcing Tel Aviv from the hearts and minds of the international community for decades to come.
With calls for an immediate ceasefire raining down upon Israel, the visit today of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice comes amid her statement about the “urgent need for a sustainable ceasefire” which will remove Hezbollah from the area, probably involving a role of brokerage by Syria.
With Syria gaining status and Hezbollah losing face, few Arab leaders would be disappointed. Israel for its part has declared that it would accept a European peacekeeping force amid very slow progress against Hezbollah and growing losses. As for the Lebanon, this situation comes when it was trying to exert its authority over the south of the country, at a time when Hezbollah was losing influence. However the leader of Hezbollah, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, has declared to the Press that the Israeli incursion will not be successful.
