Thailand to purchase renowned 'Su' pursuit plane for 250,000 tons of bad quality poultry

Thailand experiences problems with the export of poultry in connection with the ‘bird flue’ crisis

Thailand offered a deal to Russia: to exchange 250 thousand tons of poultry for a pursuit plane of the Russian holding Sukhoi, Bloomberg reports with reference to a statement from Thailand's association of poultry exporters.

For the time being, Thailand experiences problems with the export of poultry in connection with the 'bird flue' crisis, Interfax reports. According to experts' estimates the poultry export from Thailand will drop by 60 percent in comparison with 2003 to about 200 thousand tons. It will be Thailand's lowest export index in recent eight years.

A statement from the association of poultry exporters of Thailand said that Thai and Russian officials would conduct negotiations regarding the issue of poultry in exchange to a Su-brand pursuit plane. The talks are reportedly to take place in Moscow on September 5-8. Thai specialists did not specify the exact model of the plane.

Russia, however, has banned the import of live chickens, eggs, all kinds of poultry products, chicken seed, as well as the poultry-farm equipment from several Asian countries, including Thailand.

According to experts' estimates, the annual consumption of poultry in Russia makes up about two million tons. Russia imports about 50 percent of poultry. The USA is the largest supplier of poultry to Russia.
