Ukraine is not going to join NATO any more

Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma deleted the points on Ukraine’s joining NATO and the EU from Ukrainian Military Doctrine.
Previously, joining NATO and the EU were the officially announced final goals of the policy of Ukrainian integration in European and Atlantic organization.

President Kuchma replaced the point on Ukraine’s joining NATO by the statement that Ukraine should conduct the policy of integration with the countries of Europe and Atlantic. “To safeguard itself in terms of military, Ukraine should maintain the relations based on trust with the other countries and pursue the policy of Euro-Atlantic integration”, says the Doctrine.

Previously, the Doctrine stated that “Ukraine is preparing to join NATO and the EU, and this intention is the vital national interest of Ukraine”.

President Kuchma deleted the words on Ukraine’s preparation to become the member of NATO.

Ukrainian Military Doctrine was changed after the meeting of Ukraine-NATO commission in Istanbul, Turkey.
