African countries ignore Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as they understand that it is Washington that stands behind him.
Owei Lakemfa, former Secretary General of the African Workers' Union, human rights activist, journalist and writer, wrote an article for Nigerian newspaper Today. In the article, the author reflects on how the West was trying to get Africa involved into a European war.
"African resources were seized to fund that war which like the first, was essentially, an All-European War in which the rest of humanity was forced to take sides," the author wrote.
Today, 77 years later, Europe and its "American cousin" use propaganda, human rights claims, threats and outright blackmail to drag Africa into yet another European conflict, he added.
According to Owei Lakemfa, it was for this purpose that "imbued with a sense of self importance, Ukraine's impudent President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 20, 2022 called African presidents to a virtual meeting."
However, despite pressure from French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, only three African presidents attended the meeting: African Union organizer and chairman Maki Sall, who is also the President of Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara and President of the Republic Congo Denis Sassou N'Guesso. All these three countries are former French colonies.
The authorities of 51 African countries simply ignored the Ukrainian comedian.
The Nigerian writer pointed out that Zelensky showed himself as a civil warmonger. He did not seek peace, but took the side of one of the parties to the conflict and unreasonably declared Russia an "enemy".
Zelensky was also hostile towards Africans, Owei Lakemfa said. African refugees in Ukraine were discriminated against as soon as the conflict started. Zelensy then said that any African student who left Ukraine would not be welcome back once the war was over. In addition, Ukraine illegally recruits Africans as mercenaries for army service. Brahim Saadoun, a Moroccan, was sentenced to death in the Donetsk region, the author noted.
Zelensky's address to African leaders was boring and useless, the author assumed. Africa is not a hostage of the Russians, as Zelensky claims. Africa is a hostage of those who refuse to use diplomatic means to end the war.
"Zelensky and his masters in Washington and Brussels are only interested in sending more arms to Ukraine, which keeps the Western war industrial complex busy and profitable, and where they can test their new weapons," the author said.
The West knows that Ukraine cannot win, but Western countries still continue the military conflict in order to weaken Russia and strengthen their hegemonic control over the world.
Owei Lakemfa feels sorry for Zelensky:
"Hopping around in green T-shirt and camouflage trousers making endless speeches, he lives under the illusion that he is the great war president destined to defeat Russia and rescue the world from a blood-thirsty dragon and its evil empire. Zelensky is like a man who sets his home on fire, refuses the fire be put out and then shouts that it is a universal calamity for which he deserves a mansion as replacement. We Africans cannot be hoodwinked by such a freak; we have no inheritance in the House of Zelensky," the author of the article concludes.
Since the beginning of the special operation, Volodymyr Zelensky has been speaking before the parliaments of different countries and international organizations for propaganda purposes. However, these PR campaigns, which are met with skepticism all over the world, do not bring peace anywhere near.
