Maradona refuses to turn up in court after driving into a phone booth

Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona failed to turn up in court for the sixth time to offer his response against charges of a driving accident.

Maradona was seen partying with Colombian singers Juanes and Carlos Vives in Colombia on Saturday, while he should have been in Argentina to face the charges.

The 1986 World Cup winning captain is accused of driving into a phone booth and shattering glass over two bystanders, and then fleeing the scene.

Maradona had denied the charges in a television interview, but has failed to turn up in court fives times to respond to the case.

The courts have warned he may be taken into custody when he returns to Argentina, New Delhi reports.

The lawyers of “Pelusa” asked to suspend the trial, but the claim was not successful.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Gustavo Galante asked in November to make Maradona pay a fee of more than 600 dollars, sportsya.com reports.
