David Beckham swaps UK for USA to earn 250 million dollars

British superstar David Beckham and his wife Victoria Beckham have come to the United States and everyone in the celebrity-watching world couldn't be more excited. David Beckham confirmed on Thursday, according to E Online, that he was leaving the Real Madrid team and coming to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in what is being called the biggest deal in sports history, with some reports putting Beckham's salary at $250 million for five years. They're not just coming to LA. They're coming rich.

Beckham released a statement, "After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay here at Madrid or join other major British and European clubs, I have decided to join the Los Angeles Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year."

E Online reports that Victoria Beckham, who counts Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise among her close American friends, was spotted in Beverly Hills last month househunting. The couple has three sons - Brooklyn who's seven, Romeo who's four, and the 21 month-old Cruz Beckham, actressarchives.com says.

What kind of impact could David Beckham have on soccer? Timothy J. Leiweke, president and CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, who owns the Los Angeles Galaxy, told E Online, "David Beckham will have a greater impact on soccer in America than any athlete has ever had on a sport globally. David is truly the only individual that can build the bridge between soccer in America and the rest of the world."

The Beckham brand is huge across Europe, Africa and Asia and the couple's move to Los Angeles could be exactly what they need to break into the U.S. market.

Beckham already operates a soccer academy in L.A., as well as in London, while the former Posh Spice has been working on expanding her fashion line in the United States and recently directed a photo shoot for her close friend Katie Holmes, mediagab.com reports.

As for buying a new home, the Beckhams will be able to take their pick from luxurious mansions that put “Beckingham Palace” to shame.

The first challenge they face will be the notoriously competitive LA real estate market.

Posh has already started her research, with a spot of house-hunting while in the city last month.

She looked at three homes in Beverly Hills, one of which was just down the road from Tom and Katie. Other celebs with homes nearby include Madonna and George Clooney.

But if the couple want a stunning view of the City of Angels , they may prefer to live in Hollywood Hills.

There — in gated mansions perched high above the city — live the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Keanu Reeves, Tobey Maguire, Jack Nicholson, Justin Timberlake and Halle Berry.

Family homes in the Hills that would fit the Beckhams and their three boys regularly sell for more than £5million, thesun.co.uk reports.
