When Don King, the promoter of the Russian WBC champion, accused Klitschko’s team of cowardice, a manager of the Ukrainian heavyweight boxer, Bernd Boente, stated that Klitschko was not going to decline the challenge.

“We will agree for the fight. However, the tournament between Klitschko and Valuev could have taken place a year ago. We used to ask Valuev’s promoter to organize the fight, but he declined saying that Wladimir Klitschko was too fast for the Russian giant. The forces were not equal during the Valuev-Barett tournament. I believe that a physically stronger boxer will have better chances,” German newspapers quoted Boente as saying.

Indeed, Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko seems to be a worthy rival for Russian giant Nikolai Valuev. Klitschko is a little smaller than Valuev, but the two possess relatively equal fighting power. Furthermore, Klitschko has more stamina and higher movement speed.

Many specialists say that the fight between the two boxers may not become a reality at all. Wladimir Klitschko needs first to defend his title in a fight with Calvin Brock on November 11. No one doubts Klitschko’s victory in that fight, though. More importantly, the Ukrainian champion has no wish to work with Don King’s boxers. To crown it all, modern heavyweight champions prefer not to fight their colleagues. The last fight of the kind took place in 1999 between Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield.
