Initially it had been thought that only 64.4 million euros would be earnt from ticket sales, yet the organizers’ expectations were exceeded in this regard on only the sixth day of competition. Throughout the two weeks of the XX Winter Olympic Games 900 thousand tickets were sold in total. 30 thousand tickets, bought by people wanting to watch the athletes train in one of the Olympic venues in Turin, should also be added to this figure.

According to an estimate of the Turin mayor’s office, during the Olympics approximately one million tourists visited Turin and the surrounding Piedmont region. In Turin itself public transport carried approximately 3 million people to the mountains where many competitions took place.
