Actress Angelina Jolie visited refugee camps in Russia

American actress Angelina Jolie is on a visit to Russia as a goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Jolie set out her gratitude to the Russian government for the efforts to help Chechen refugees. On Thursday, the actress had a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Fedotov to discuss a question about possible alternatives for Chechen refugees that had fled their republic because of the war. "I was I happy to hear him say that they would not be forced back," Jolie told reporters in Moscow. Angelina Jolie also said, she was going to return to Russia. "It is my first visit here, but I am planning to return to Russia in several months. Maybe, I will be making a film here," said she.

The actress plans to play a role in the military drama Love and Honor about the personal and political life of the Russian empress Ekaterina II (Catherine II the Great). In the movie, American President Benjamin Franklin sends a special messenger to Russia to ask Ekaterina not to help the British in their aspiration to keep American states in their control. The messenger manages to derange a rebellion of Cossacks and then falls in love with the empress herself. The movie is slated to be released in the third or the fourth quarter of 2004.

During her visit to the republics of Ingushetia and North Osetia, Angelina Jolie had meetings with Ingushetian President Murat Zyazikov and North Osetian Prime Minister Mikhail Shatalov. She visited refugee camps Bella and Sputnik in Ingushetia, as well as a refugee center Gisel in Vladikavkaz. Ingushetian President decorated the actress with the order of the republic.

The actress is 28 years old, she is one of the most famous young American actresses. Angelina Jolie is the winner of the Golden Globe and the Oscar movie awards. Movie-goers know her for the role as action-woman Lara Croft, the sequel of the movie is currently showing in theatres across Russia. Jolie adopted a Cambodian boy. She does not plan to get married again, saying she does not want her son to have a temporal father. In one of her interviews she confessed, she had a lot of dark moments in her past. For example, when a little girl, she was attracted to knives, she even tried to injure herself on several occasions.
