War Declared on Russian Beauties

Organizers of beauty contests fear that there will be no rivals to Russian girls in a couple of years
A war has been declared on Russian women claiming to the title of beauties of the Universe. Miss Russia Maria Smirnova, who was supposed to represent Russia at the beauty contest Miss Universe 2003, has been disqualified. The organizers of the show say the decision was taken because Maria posed half-nude for the Russian-language Playboy.

A picture of the girl from the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod was published on a cover of the magazine for men in 2000, but the organizational committee of the contest learnt of this fact just two weeks before the contest, right at a moment when Russia would hardly be able to find another candidate for participation in the beauty contest. Even if some other Russian girl takes Maria Smirnova's place (the organizers of the contest didn't give OK to find another candidate), a new candidate will be short of time to get ready for the contest properly. It is interesting to mention that it wasn't a secret at all that Maria Smirnova posed for Playboy, even won the Russian contest Playmate several years ago and further participated in the international Playmate contest.

Recently, Russian beauties have become frequent winners of international beauty contests. However, success is sometimes followed by failures. We still remember the scandal connected with Russian beauty Oxana Fyodorova who won the title Miss Universe in 2002 and then was stripped of the title. The girl was blamed for "systematic violation of the contract", which implied a secret marriage and her decision to have a baby. And the accusations arose at the time when Oxana appeared on Russian and foreign TV without any signs of pregnancy. However, as there were rumors saying the girl was pregnant, she had to give the title back. Svetlana Koroleva who recently won the title Miss Europe, is more lucky in this respect: she is still the most beautiful girl officially recognized in the Old World.

Another Russian girl, Olesya Kuzmicheva from the city of Saratov recently won the title Queen of Universe. There are no signs that the girl may be stripped of the title as well. However, the contest was held just some time ago, and the organizers of the contest still have an opportunity to damp the girl and stop further expansion of Russian beauties. It is not ruled out that the organizers of beauty contests fear that there will be no rivals to Russian girls in a couple of years.
