Russian President Vladimir Putin wears the tunic of a Roman commander
Alexander Rozhnikov, a sculptor from the town of Lyubertsy, the Moscow region, created a series of sculptures of Russia’s famous politicians. His sculptures are not exact copies of the originals. The artist decided to portray several famous people of Russia in unusual images.
Alexander Rozhnikov was inspired with the portrait of a Roman warrior that he saw in the Hermitage, St.Petersburg. Rozhnikov thought that the warrior on the painting looked like Russian President Vladimir Putin. The sculptor made Putin’s sculpture of gold-plated bronze (40 centimeters high), and made him wear the tunic of a Roman commander. Working on the sculpture of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the artist made him look like Napoleon.
Alexander Rozhnikov says that he tried to find a non-standard solution of an image, when he worked on the collection of his sculptures. The most unusual one of them was the sculpture of Anatoly Chubais, Russian energy oligarch, the head of the Russian energy giant RAO UES of Russia. At first the artist thought to make him look like an alien, then there was an idea to make him a cosmonaut from another galaxy. Eventually, Alexander Rogozhnikov thought that his Chubais would be the best as a medieval alchemist. Chuibais’s sculpture sits of a high armchair, the arms of which look like electric wires. At present moment, the artist works on the sculpture of Gennady Zyuganov, the leader of the Russian Communist Party. Alexander Rogozhnikov plans to make him be a plowman: Zyuganov tries to plow the Red Square without a horse.
Artist Alexander Rogozhnikov is known for making more than a dozen of monuments. He is also the author of the emblem of the town of Lyubertsy. His works include monuments to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. It deems that Vladimir Putin will not be angry with Rogozhnikov for his artistic endeavor. There are tons of Putin’s weird sculptures in Russia already. Anatoly Chubais is not likely to be mad either. He has a very good sense of humor. However, this can not be said about Gennady Zyuganov. Most likely, he will not approve the idea of his little sculpture plowing the Red Square.
