Aksakov festival held in Bashkiria - 27 September, 2002

The 12th Aksakov festival opened in Bashkiria (Russian autonomy in the Western Ural Region) on Friday. It has the status of "international" and is devoted to the birth anniversary of Sergei Aksakov, a Russian writer and humanist.

This year the event is held within the framework of the Humanitarian Festival, a joint project of the Ministry of Culture of Bashkiria and the Russian branch of the Open Society /Soros Foundation) Institute.

The guests of the festival visited Sergei Aksakov's memorial House Museum in Ufa, the opening of an exhibition of prominent Bashkir artist Khramov "Aksakov's Fatherland", the Bashkir Opera and Ballet Theatre (in Aksakov's folk house), where a gala meeting devoted to the writer's 211th birth anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the Aksakov foundation (the Bashkir branch of the International Foundation of Slavonic Writing and Culture) was held, and where All-Russia Aksakov Prize was awarded to writer Mikhail Chvanov.
