Green Vision festival in St. Petersburg - 26 September, 2002

The seventh international film festival Green Vision opened in St. Petersburg on Thursday.

According to organizers, the festival, which is part of an international chain of ecological festivals called Ecomove, is being held in the framework of St. Petersburg's 2002 Environmental Week. The competitive program features 45 films from 17 countries. Apart from traditional contenders from Russia, Germany, Estonia and other countries, the event has also gathered cinematographers from Hungary, Austria and Switzerland.

The films featured are united into blocs, each bloc dedicated to a certain topic, such as the beauty of Nature and ecological problems (genetics, chemical pollution and its effect on people). The running time of the movies ranges between 1 minute (an animation film from Hungary) to a 60-minute work (a product of Australia).

Results of the festival will be announced on September 29th, the last day of the Environmental Week. The jury will choose the winner of the Grand Prix, the best film about the Baltic Sea region, the boldest ecological film, the most beautiful and humane film, and the most unusual approach to portrayal of the ecological topic.
