The structure of the meteorite belongs to octahedrites
A meteorite of 5.4 kg, the third one over the history of the republic of Tuva, was found in the south of the republican capital, Kyzyl. The long axis of the oblong meteorite is 26 centimeters and the width is 8-9 centimeters. ITAR-TASS informs that research assistant from the Tuva Institute for Complex Development of Natural Resources of the Academy of Sciences' Siberian Department, Valery Popov reported the discovery. According to the researcher, the new meteorite is of grayish-silver color, is magnetoelectric and registers low radioactivity.
Preliminary analysis of the find reveals meteorite's nickel-ferrous composition with phosphorous admixtures. The structure of the meteorite belongs to octahedrites and radically differs from Chinge, the first meteorite that landed 12,000 years ago and was discovered in the republic in the 1950s. The third meteorite was discovered 50 kilometers to the north of the locality where the previous meteorite had dropped. No crater traces were discovered there. The meteorite highly likely dropped several decades ago and was obviously accompanied with no sound and fiery effects. At that, marks of melting are clearly seen on the meteorite surface. Researchers from the Institute for Complex Development of Natural Resources and the Tuva Geology Institute still study the new meteorite.
