Candidates for Presidency Form Backup Groups

Irina Khakamada also has voters supporting her running for presidency
On January 5, Russia's Central Election Commission registered several groups of voters who joined to support candidates for presidency. The Central Election Commission registered representatives of the Communist Party who nominated Nikolay Kharitonov for presidency, people from the Party of Russian Regions supporting the candidature of Viktor Gerashchenko. Chairman of the Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov says that even though the party belonging to the Rodina block nominated Viktor Gerashchenko (the block overcame a 5 per cent barrier at the parliamentary election in Russia), the candidate will all the same have to collect 2 million signatures.

The Central Election Commission also registered groups of voters supporting leader of the Rodina block Sergey Glazyev and businessman Anzori Aksentyev from Kaliningrad. SPS co-chairman Irina Khakamada also has a group of voters supporting her candidature for presidency. These three candidates are going to collect signatures to run for presidency in the Russian Federation.
