Government Payment of Compensations to People Who Lost Housing set up in Checnya

A statute has been worked out in Chechnya on paying state compensations to Chechen people who have lost their housing, and a commission for controlling the payment of these compensations has been set up. The head of the republican government, Anatoly Popov, told reporters as much on Monday. According to him, the statute on the commission and the list of its members have already been sent for approval to the Russian government.

The commission, said Popov, consists of 25 members - representatives of the public, the Chechen government and law enforcement structures of the republic. According to the head of the government, the Finance Ministry has already allocated money for the state compensations for the lost housing, and "there will be no delays in payment of these compensations." He reminded the reporters that compensations would be paid only to those who have completely lost their housing. The people, whose houses were destroyed partially, will receive individual aid - either in money or in building materials. "Those who have already restored their houses will receive compensations on producing documents about the appropriate expenditures," added Anatoly Popov.

He said that the sum of the compensations would amount to 136,000 roubles per person at a rate of 18 square metres of housing (one dollar equals 31 roubles).

Touching upon the coming presidential election in Chechnya, Popov pointed out that they might take place in June, next year. "The presidential election in Chechnya must be held separately from the parliamentary elections in the Russian Federation and the election of the President of Russia, so that to ensure their absolute transparency," believes the head of the Chechen government.
