Yekaterinburg hosts conference on investments in Russian economy - 26 September, 2002

A conference "Attraction of Foreign Investments into Economy of Russian Regions in Compliance with Kyoto Protocol" was launched on Thursday, September 26th, in the city of Yekaterinburg (the Urals).

A RIA Novosti correspondent reports that the Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement formalising the world community's determination to resolve issues related to a possible global change of climate. This document also allows to reduce emissions of "green-house" gases.

To do this, the parties to the agreement should implement relevant environmental projects which will be funded by a specially established Global Carbon Foundation. The Kyoto Protocol allows to solve environmental problems by economic means.

The conference is being held with the participation of parliamentarians from the State Duma, local legislators, heads of regional and federal ministries, finance and production businessmen, representatives of scientific and non-governmental organisations.
